Who We Are…

Happy Penguin began a few years ago in much the same way as other paper companies: as a fun hobby. Its owner and head paper aficionado, Ashley Leath, began designing websites in high school for fun. Art and its many forms had been a part of her life since birth: Both of her parents are painters, and Ashley grew up traveling the Southern California coast as her parents sold their art at outdoor art shows. Eventually, her webdesign hobby led to designing promotional materials for her parents’ art gallery, and thus, design met paper. A love affair was born. She’s been obsessed ever since.

Of course, getting married only fueled the fire. Thankfully, her partner in crime and now husband, Bryan, is supportive of his wife’s obsessions. A great appreciation for art doesn’t hurt either.

Thus began a quiet love affair of paperie between a husband and wife, she, a paper-loving obsessive, and he, a numbers-crunching environmental engineer. They both love clean design and thoughtful words. After designing wedding stationery for friends and family (and themselves), they decided to put together a collection of their own.

Thus, Happy Penguin was born. It took a while to hatch and grow, but it’s here now, and we’re as excited as we can be to spread a little happiness around the globe.

A Few Things That Make Happy Penguin Happy…

{In no particular order after 01}

01 Our pet-children, Zoey the cat and Scout the dog, who inspire countless hours of mayhem and love. 02 Food + cooking. We’ve never met a pasta we wouldn’t eat or a meringue we wouldn’t whip up. 03 College basketball. Is it March Madness yet? 04 Black, white, and pudgy in all the right ways: Penguins. 05 Being green. 06 A really good, sticks-with-you-for-hours-after-you’re-finished book. 07 And of course, beautiful paper.

About Our Products…

Happy Penguin uses recycled and 100% cotton paper and rubber-based inks. Our pieces are printed one at a time, by hand, on our 1884 press named Ceci. All of the scraps from the printing process are recycled so that nothing goes to waste. Once printing is complete, cards are packaged in biodegradable sleeves.
