Happy Penguin Celebrates One Year!

Happy Penguin Celebrates One Year!

birthday

birthday2

Who would have thought, but time has flown. Today marks our first birthday! We can’t believe where a year has brought us…

…97 Etsy sales
…a visit to the Ladies of Letterpress conference in beautiful Asheville, NC, in August 2012
buying our own press!
…mentions on countless blogs such as Fellow Fellow, The Petit Cadeau, Discover Paper, and Oh So Beautiful Paper, to name a few
…a shout-out on Southern Living magazine’s Facebook page and blog
…which led to printing something for the magazine’s March issue!

And now, we turn one. Any one year old knows that one is a very big year, and Happy is hoping that the same will be true for us. We couldn’t have made it this far without those who have supported us—you! So from the bottoms of our hearts…

birthday3As an added bonus (and because as much as we really want to bake you a cake to celebrate with us, that’s hard to do over the Internet), we’re giving you a little something extra: 25% off! (Use code “HappyTurnsOne” when you check out.) And right in time for some new work (greeting cards! an art print! baby announcements!!) that we’re launching next week! I know, I know, our squeals are kind of annoying. But we’re excited, and we just can’t help ourselves.

Thanks again for making our first year so special!

The Day We Printed Something for Southern Living Magazine

The Day We Printed Something for Southern Living Magazine

A few months ago, Southern Living magazine approached us about printing a piece for their March issue. Of course we were thrilled, and said yes just as quickly as we could. As it turned out, quick became the name of the game, because the magazine needed the piece, a tag that was going to be wrapped around a vase with a pretty ribbon for a photo shoot, in a jiffy. Before we knew it, we were express-ordering plates and printing just a day later. The pieces were in our studio for less than 24 hours before they were rushed to the magazine in time for the shoot!

Then, just like all their loyal readers, we had to wait and wait until the issue came out to see the shot. Seeing our paper product all dolled up in their pretty ribbon and styled so perfectly was so neat! The March issue is beautiful and bright, just what we need for this dreary February we’re having. I encourage you to grab a copy off newsstands for yourself. For those of you who don’t live in the South or don’t have access to an issue, click the image above for a PDF of the cover and page we’re mentioned on.

As a fun bonus, the magazine is offering the tag as a free download—click here to get a copy for yourself!

Happy Goes to California

Happy Goes to California

news

We’ve been mum on our big news, but I think we can finally spread the word: Happy Penguin Press is going to be in a store near you! Or one store, to be precise. We’re honored and excited to have work included in Oh, Hello Friend’s new retail space opening in Fullerton, California. If you aren’t familiar with Oh, Hello Friend, you have time before they open to run (digitally) over to Danni’s online spot and take it all in. She has an incredible eye for vintage decor/finds and positive, inspiring words. In the meantime, please mark your calendars for the opening of her store on February 2:

oh, hello friend grand opening!
Saturday, February 2, 2012
10:00 am – 6:00 pm
122 N. Harbor Blvd, Suite 103 / Fullerton / 92832

This is an exciting time for both Happy Penguin and Oh, Hello Friend, so thanks for sharing it with us! Help Danni spread the word about OHF, and if you’re in the Cali area, RSVP for her grand opening for fun swag-bags for the first 100 visitors at the grand opening!

Discover Paper + Holiday Cards

If you haven’t heard yet, we have two new holiday cards available in our shop.

The first card, our nod toward the beloved holiday book T’was the Night Before Christmas, features the line “and to all a good night” in navy ink on Crane’s 110 lb. cotton Lettra paper. A second run through the press dots the card with blind debossed stars for a textural touch. Like much of our current work, the stars are drawn by hand and (we think) perfectly imperfect.

The second card is a sentimental favorite. The line drawing is based on a photograph Bryan took while we visited friends for Thanksgiving one year. They took us to a reindeer sanctuary, and it was such a neat experience. The card was printed on Crane’s Lettra with a beautiful blue-green ink. I can’t help but think of our trip and its memories every time I see it!

OTHER NEWS
We’re also excited to announce that we’re going to be a part of Discover Paper’s 2012 Holiday Guide! Last year’s guide got over 100,000 visitors during November and December! The guide is released on November 1, 2012, and we urge you to check it out for lots of wonderful holiday inspiration and cheer. Stay tuned for more details!

The Handmade Marathon at The Petit Cadeau

We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve been selected to take part in the Handmade Marathon over at The Petit Cadeau. Alison is running a marathon on November 4, and like others who sponsor and support groups during their training, Alison decided that she wanted to support handmade businesses! Awesome idea, huh?
